January 2010

Family ski/soak trip to Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Spent Sunday afternoon in the hot springs pool, and enjoyed a lovely dinner with Lauren, Kim, Mariah and Sierra on Sunday evening. Jacob, Chloe and Jerry went skiing at Sunlight on Monday. Jeanette preferred to stay warm in the coffee shop rather than ski.

July 2010

The summer 14er climbing trip included Capital, Pyramid, and North Maroon in the Elk Range near Snowmass and Aspen.  These are considered among the most difficult 14ers in Colorado.  For my two cents, Capital gets the billing.  The Knife Edge is definitely challenging.  Our first attempt at Capital ended at 9AM at about 13,000' as heavy clouds moved in. Not a mountain to be on it bad weather.  So back down to our camp at 10,000'; then start again the next morning at 3:30 AM rather than 5:30 AM.  Second attempt was a success.  Then we took a day off in Glenwood Springs, and make successful first attempts at Pyramid and North Maroon in successive days.  By the time we reached base camp after North Maroon I was tired.  So it should be; approximately 18,000' vertical feet in five days is a good enough reason for me.  Click here for pictures.  Lots of pictures in this link, so It might take some time to download. New Year

We headed to Weatherford Oklahoma for New Year.  Jerry, Jeanette and Jacob from COS and Chloe from Hesston. A fabulous time.  Visited Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial, riverwalk, and the mighty Mast lake.  Goofed off a lot, played games...ask who dominated Dutch Blitz!  And, yes, lots of eating.  Click here for pictures. It might take some time to download.

November 2009

Martins and Millers loaded up in the big white van to visit Chloe and Indy in Hesston for Thanksgiving. Indy came from Goshen; Chloe was already there of course.  We enjoyed spaghetti pie and salad for Thanksgiving dinner around Chloe's apartment table.  Thanksgiving Pictures

November 2009

Jeanette and I turned 50 this year. We decided to visit something old to put it all in perspective. So last weekend we caught a plane to California and visited Yosemite National Parks. Rock formations that are millions of years old and trees, no huge trees, that are thousands of years old. It was a wonderful visit. Yosemite Pictures

August 2009

I haven't climbed many 14ers in recent years. But joining Bruce and Kevin and Tim to climb Wetterhorn and Uncompaghre the last weekend in August was a reminder of how cool it is to reach the Colorado high points. I will be doing this again next summer.

We climbed Uncompaghre on the same day that Ian Usher, who gained some notoriety by selling his life on E-Bay, was fulfilling one of his 100 Goals:  to climb 7 peaks in 7 days.

  December 2008
We enjoyed Christmas in Pennsylvania with Martins and Hertzlers. We also spent 24 hours in New York City just walking around and soaking up a different place, and had a nice visit with Eugene McMichael. Drove straight through from Colorado both directions. Not such a bad trip with four drivers.

  September 2008
September is a wonderful time of year in Colorado. Lots of blue skies, summer heat gives way to coolness. Here are a couple of images of Pikes Peak this weekend.
Click on either one for a larger picture. I've wrapped up the summer landscaping project: a Colorado Moss Rock dry stack wall along the back side or our lot. We've planted Aspen, Austrian Pines, Serviceberry and Potentilla in this raised area.
